George Tucker - The Norfolk Historical Society established this contest to pay tribute to Norfolk historian George Holbert Tucker and inspire up-and-coming historians among today's students.

Winners of the 2001 Tucker Award (from left) Alex Gregory of Cox High School, Michelle Baker of Norfolk Academy, and Amanda Williams of Maury High School, meet with renowned Norfolk historian George Holbert Tucker during the Norfolk Historical Society's annual meeting April 29 at Fort Norfolk.

 

Michelle Baker, a Virginia Beach resident who attends Norfolk Academy, received first place for her essay Fire in Her Eyes. Amanda Williams, a Norfolk resident who attends Maury High School, received second place for her essay January 1, 1776. Alex Gregory, a Virginia Beach resident who attends Cox High School, received third place for his essay An Old Merchant's Tale
